“Elusiveness” is the word used in cryptozoology, the science of mythical animals, to describe how any evidence systematically disappears. Indeed, whenever significant proof of the existence of a mysterious creature like the Loch Ness or the giant octopus is collected, the evidence is lost or invalidated. The witness did not have time or was too impressed to focus and the photograph is fuzzy, the camera didn’t work properly so the precious skeleton is lost and remains hidden. Identification becomes impossible, leaving these species in the realm of myth even though some people still claim they have seen it.
